  25. To those that either do not know who Wilson Pickett is or may ignore one of the greatest artists ever, i like to remind : ‘One of the most popular black singers of the ’60s, Wilson Pickett helped introduce the aggressive style of rhythmic style of soul music. Aided immeasurably by the excellent studio bands backing him at the Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, and The Fame Studio in Muscle Shoals Alabama, Pickett scored a series of R&B and pop hits on Atlantic Records between 1963 and 1972 that included “In the Midnight Hour,” “Mustang Sally,” and “Funky Broadway.” Wilson Pickett was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.’

  27. The Wicked Pickett. Damn, Eddie Murphy would love this download. A true legend in the vein of Otis Redding….rawness magnified. Thanks for the education to some and reliving the goodtimes to others.

  30. In the 60s most of the great black singers were directly related to the Rock ‘n’ Roll. Wilson Pickett was one of them and it was no coincidence that several of his songs were covered by artists of Rock. Thanks for sharing.

  33. Hello - Havent listened to this album yet but just wanted to leave a general comment…although i imagine you wouldnt consider running this blog and putting these albums out there for the musically malnurished general public a chore just want to say thanks for the years of dedication you’ve put in

apart from a small niche area of house i dont understand todays popular music. it lacks everything this stuff contains. i’ve only really been opened up to this style in the past years or so, mainly through two producers called Moodymann & Theo Parrish, they make house but the good kind of house. it all stems from this

anyway i’m going on a bit for no particular reason!!! just wanted to say cheers!

this blog is in my favourites and i will be checking it out on the regs x

  34. Great! Nice to hear the whole album, thanks for sharing

  35. Another sublime entry Nikos. The Wicked Pickett was certainly something to be seen live from the little footage I’ve seen - electric !! Will lap this LP up from the prolific gent. It’s a shame that that style of gritty earthy singing that was so popular around this time seemed to lose favour with the advent of sophistisoul. Maybe the two weren’t compatible, like mixing moonshine and a cafe latte, although new artists like Teddy P & Peoples Choice, did buck that trend. Either way, thanks again Nikos for keeping the candle burning.
